Loveland opens first in North America

With a base of just 18 inches Loveland Ski Resort in Colorado, USA is the first ski area to open for the 2009-2010 season.

In the earliest opening day in 40 years Colorado’s Loveland ski area kicked off the North American snow season with one lift operating for keen early season skiers and snowboarders.

The resort has been making snow since mid-September and says the resort is reporting an 18-inch base.

“We are proud of our snowmaking crew and extremely excited to offer the first skiing and snowboarding in Colorado and North America,” Rob Goodell, Loveland’s director of business operations, said in a statement.

Lift tickets are USD$44 for early season turns with 1 chairlift open out of Loveland Basin.

Loveland’s local competitor, Arapahoe Basin, is reported to be opening this Friday.
