A grass roots campaign to install a half-pipe at France’s premier resort has not changed the minds of Chamonix’s management team.
Kieran Mac Donald Sharp, the man behind the campaign, has let his followers know via Facebook that the halfpipe is not something Chamonix wants to have this season.
“Basically the company is owned by a group of other companies and they feel that a half pipe will not benifit Chamonix at this time but it is in their 5 year plan amongst other ventures,” Kieran said.
Despite previous promises of sponsorship to maintain the halfpipe the idea has previously been declined.
“I did originally say that a protest might be the way forward but I have learnt a lot through meetings with the company and others who have been down this road, and the company would feel threatned by this move and probably stop considering it all together.”
Instead of grabbing your riot gear Kieran recommends the long-term approach of filling out resort questionnaires whenever possible to gently suggest that the resort needs a half-pipe.
“I recomend next time you’re stopped take the time to fill one(questionnaire) out and write down your views of the company, take every oppertunity to possitivley let any company member know what you want, we are the customers and we need to speak up!”
“There are other possibilites which i will be working on over the course of this winter to get a pipe put in on one of the privatley owned slopes in the valley for next year so all hope is not lost and I will be putting all my effort in to getting something up and running for next year.”
