Utah’s old liquor laws may have made it difficult to find a stiff drink in the past but in a sign of the times a new ski-in distillery is poised to open in Utah’s Park City ski resort area.
The High West Distillery and Saloon will be open for the 2009-10 ski season where they will serve and distill whiskey to would-be punters.
“It will be the world’s first ski-in gastro-distillery,” Perkins told the Salt Lake City Tribune.
According to the report Perkins quit his job in pharmaceuticals in 2004 to learn the art of making whiskey. After his apprenticeship he bought the garage house in Park City and imported an 18-foot brass still to make his whiskey.
Perkins already makes his own whiskey with his High West Rendezvous Rye taking honors in the 2008 San Francisco World Spirits competition.
The High West Distillery and Saloon will be open to the public for tours, dining and sipping. It also will cater to private parties.
The National Garage and the Watts property is located at 703 Park Ave. near Park City’s Town Lift, Utah. For more information on the location visit their Website at www.highwestdistillery.com/
