Squaw Valley adds new lift for 2009 season

The 60th anniversary of the Lake Tahoe-area ski resort’s founding will see a new lift, more snowmaking, and more dining options.

2009-2010 is set to be a big year of anniversaries for Squaw Valley. It celebrates not only the first lift opening back in 1949 but also 50 years since hosting the Winter Olympics. As well as remembering the past they’re looking to the future.

This season will see a new chairlift replacing the old double High Camp Chairlift with a new, faster, triple chair.

Squaw Valley’s snowmaking department is also having a busy summer by overhauling the resort’s existing snowmaking system. A three-mile pipeline is being installed to more efficiently transfer water from storage ponds to the snowmaking building and a new 1200-horsepower air compressor that doubles Squaw Valley’s snowmaking capability.

Two new restaurants are set to open on top of the Funitel terminal – The ARC and 39° North Latitude – both made from 100% recycled and locally produced sustainable building materials.

New restaurants and bars are opening in Squaw’s Village and Base Area also. Twenty-Two Bistro & Bar will serve New American cuisine and Cornice Cantina will serve up authentic Mexican food.
