Perisher kicks off season with 21cm of fresh

Perisher received 21cm of fresh snow in the village overnight and across the four mountain areas, allowing top to bottom skiing and snowboarding on the opening weekend.

According to the mountain resort, light snow flurries began to settle in the resort throughout Sunday prompting the resort’s Operations Department to fire up 95 snow guns across parts of Perisher Valley and Blue Cow Mountain to add to the growing base.

The new snow allowed the opening of Australia’s 8-seat chairlift to make its debut over the weekend.

For the long weekend, Perisher was the only Australian ski resort to have lifts in operation.

“It has been a fantastic start to the season. Not only did we have a great selection of acts preform at the Snowy Mountains of Music festival but we’ve also had fresh snowfalls,” commented Nathan Butterworth Perisher’s Resort Services Manager.

Adding to the snow was the Snowy Mountains of Music Festival which kicked-off on Saturday 6 with bands such as The Audreys and rock-star Tex Perkins performing.
