New Zealand’s south island resort has turned on the flood lights for night skiing.
From July 3 until mid-September skiers and snowboarders can during the twilight on Friday and Saturday nights at Coronet Peak.
According to the resort, M1, Shirtfront, Big Easy trails and a Magic Carpet are all fully floodlit until 9pm.
Ski Area Manager Hamish McCrostie said in a press release that night skiing is popular with locals as much as tourists.
“Locals enjoy Night Skiing because it allows them to spend more time on the slopes with friends and family after school or work,” he said. “Visitors and holiday-makers just love the whole Night Skiing experience with DJs and hot mulled wine on the deck and sparkling views over Queenstown.”
If it gets too chilly or icy on the hill the bars and restaurants are also open until 9pm.
Also announced by the resort today is the news that the Coronet Express chairlift will also be open for early birds to enjoy First Tracks from 8am – an hour before the lifts ‘officially’ open at 9am.
“First Tracks is always popular with those keen to ski or ride before work and early risers who look to share the fresh powder and groomed corduroy trails with only a handful of others,” said Mr McCrostie.
Night Skiing lift passes from 4-9pm cost NZ$48 for adults, while Twilight lift passes allowing access from 12.30pm-9pm cost NZ$93 for adults. An adult Sightseeing lift pass costs NZ$15.
Day Lift Passes with First Tracks cost NZ$128 per adult, or NZ$35 as an add-on for season pass holders.

Festivities for the 35th annual Queenstown Winter Festival starts this Friday, June 26 at Coronet Peak.
According to the organizers this year’s party will host a range of events with mountain bikes and dogs joining the skiers and riders on the snow.
Coronet Peak’s festival celebrations get underway with the Browns Mountain Bikes on Snow event on Saturday. The festival promises to include a celebrity charity breakfast, hiking contests, a dog derby, a suitcase race, and a dash for cash. We’re not quite sure what these last two events are but can guess by the name that people will be falling over left, right, and center in the name of entertainment.
The Queenstown Winter Festival Rail Jam (July 5) will see Queenstown’s hottest snowboarders and skiers compete with a DJ to hype the skiers and crowd. The rail jam will then crank up the music and turn into the Festival Closing Party.
For information on dates and times of the winter festival can be found at www.nzski.com.
