The first HD snowboard movie in China

Below is a teaser from Mellowparks.cn called “Happy Niu Year”, the first Chinese snowboard movie shot in HD – hitting the world December 2009.

According to the Vimeo summary the video was “shot primarily in Beijing’s Quiksilver Nanshan Mellow Park, the movie is the sequel to last year’s snowboarding flick “Niu Beesness”. Luckily for the public we were forced to abandon our initial plan of venturing into the erotic films industry due to legal issues…and decided to put together Happy Niu Year instead.”

In case you’re wondering Niu stands for Ox – and 2009 is the year of the Ox. It’s a play on words, as it sounds like ‘new’ – well sort of, anyway.

Happy Niu Year features riding from the Mellowparks.cn Crew, Quiksilver China Snowboard Team, and friends.

Now for the good news: The DVD will be free to the public. Included in the DVD is the Nitro Roadwarriors’ 2009 movie, the 7th Nanshan Open (Nanshan is a resort in China), a best-of roundup, and a trip to New Zealand. All in all that’s more than 100 minutes of free content. As the Chinese would say, Hen Hao. As the Kiwis would say, Sweet as, bro!

In China you can get your copy from December at any Quiksilver, Nordica or Nitro store, stockists of 9010, Neff, and Skullcandy, or through 1626, CityWeekend and Speed Snowboard magazines. Not in China? No problem! Happy 牛 Year will also be available free to download from Mellowparks.cn!

Snowboard World Cup to be held at Telluride

tellurideIt may be hard to think of snow in the northern hemisphere right now but Colorado’s Telluride Ski Area will host the international snowboarding competition in the USA when the comes to town this December.

Scheduled between Dec. 17-20, Telluride will be the only stop in the US of the FIS Snowboard World Cup. It will be Telluride’s first World Cup event, and is set to be on the circuit for the foreseeable future.

“It’s very exciting to be able to bring an event of this scale to a resort as great as Telluride where the enthusiasm and drive to make this World Cup a success is so strong,” said USSA Vice President of Events Calum Clark in an article in the Tulluride Daily Planet.

As well as the scheduled events Telluride will also feature a team SBX exhibition competition. Team SBX pairs two riders from the same country on a team. One races the course against three to five other competitors and when that competitor crosses the finish line, the gate at the start triggers for the next teammate to begin racing.

“The World Cup at Telluride will be filled with intense competitions, and the setting provided by the resort provides us with the perfect opportunity to showcase the sport in the U.S. before it hits the world’s stage at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver,” Clark said.

For viewers in the United States, NBC will broadcast the Visa U.S. Snowboardcross Cup Dec. 26 at 2 p.m., and the cable station Versus will broadcast the event’s SBX competition Jan. 3, 2010 at 5 p.m. and the PGS competition Jan. 10, 2010 at 4 p.m.
